I’ve always been vigilant enough to ensure balance in my views.

So… when I present an idea, an approach to take, or a new life habit to consider, I’m coming at it like this:

If this hits home with you, if it sorta bites, it’s probably a strong indicator you need to put the advice to use.

In this case, it’s all about ensuring you’re not being unconsciously-programmed.

A quick story to explain what I mean by that:

I remember reading a very funny (sad, but true) article title that humorist and author Dave Barry wrote about 15 years ago.

It said:

“Country is shocked, saddened by… whatever TV tells us.”

Yes, at the time that headline hit me smack upside the head… hard.

Not only was I allowing the “soap opera syndrome” to rule my experience, but I knew other people (loved ones) who were allowing somebody else’s life, or some event, dictate how they felt or thought at the moment, for the day, or even for longer periods of time.

This 3-minute video from The School of Life certainly makes the point (in a delicate, bearable manner) that you very well might be yearning for distraction outside yourself.

And, several months ago (via my Money Monday newsletter) I made the same straight-up, short point:

That excessive time in front of the BIG screen (yeah, that 40+ inch contraption in your house) is a recipe for mind-mushed, social-programming and, ultimately, what you have to most be aware of…

… that it doesn’t become your personal Electronic Income Reducer.

On this holiday week, I encourage you to:

  • Understand just where the NEWS could and might be an avenue for unrealized distraction in your life.
  • Consider why excessive time on social media feeds prevents us humans from seeing ourselves (especially the malevolent parts), from appreciating life and what matters most: Our own consciousevolving nature and REAL connection to others.
  • Get on my Money Monday list so you don’t miss any of my more actionable missives around ‘money’and ‘opportunity‘ — ’cause, goodness knows, I can’t allow a good NetFlix series to keep that from happening ;;)
